National Chambal Sanctuary, Morena

Dilapidated Temple on top of hill, Baretha Village

We started from Bharatpur by bus for Dhaulpur on Day 3.  The road was through villages and the condition of the roads were poor. Our first halt was Baretha village after an hour's drive.  Started trekking through the hill and boarded the bus after half a km.

Lunch at Baretha Dam

We reached Baretha Dam around 11.30 am. It was a very huge dam.  We saw lots of birds and observed them through telescope. At around 1.30 pm lunch was taken at the dam (picnic style). 

Talab Shahi

On our way to Dhaulpur, we stopped at Talab-Shahi another water body.  Where we met Mr. Tomar our local expert who explained us about the birds that are regular there.

Then we started around 4.30 pm our journey for Dhaulpur. Reached the Hotel Jaya Vilas Palace and settled ourselves after a tiring bus journey.

On the 4th day, we started our Chambal safari by reaching the Rajghat area (the river is the border for Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh States) on the Madhya Pradesh side.  Dr. R.K. Sharma, the researcher from the State Govt. met and joined us in Boat Safari on Chambal.  We saw Ghariyal, Crocodile, Indian Skimmer, Eurasian Spoonbill, Turtles, etc.

After having lunch, we went to Eco Center at Saver where ghariyal and turtles breeding center is situated.  

Meeting with Forest Officer, Morena

Divisional Forest Officer, Morena met us and explained the set up.  We interacted with his team and posed our queries.  It was heartening to note that Solar power will be available soon for the center. 


We then on our way back to hotel, had first hand experience of chambal ravines as we trekked through the ravines for a km and boarded the bus. 

On day 5, after having breakfast, we boarded the bus for our return journey from New Delhi.  We visited Taj Mahal at Agra also.
